[Album Review]: Dimitar Nalbantov - Gora (2014)

Bulgarian guitarist Dimitar Nalbantov found solace in the recorded works of guitar greats such as Jimi Hendrix, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. And to gladden the ears of Guitar Virtuosity lovers, in the middle of 2014, it released its newest album entitled "Gora"!

Listen to the nine songs on the album “Gora” (meaning: “forest”) and you’ll hear the sounds of the Bulgarian forest, you’ll be overwhelmed by its scents, and you’ll feel the sunshine caressing your skin through the green foliage.

Well, Dimitar has done a better job in preserving the feel of Bulgarian folklore. If you don’t know much about Bulgaria, you’ll probably find the music enchantingly exotic, for example. Moreover, Bulgarian folklore’s typical irregular beats/rhythms match perfectly the guitar-oriented rock which Nalbantov uses as a starting point, giving it a more progressive aspect. Stylistically, the album is further enriched both by the presence of heavier tracks (Perehilion) like in jazzier parts (Gora). Besides the fact that listening to his Gora, if I felt a "light" the influence of Steve Vai techniques and grooves Satriani.

Worth much only listen to this masterpiece!
