[Album Review-EP]: Fountainhead - Fear Is The Enemy

The new-age progressive scene has seen quite the rise in solo projects world over, making the cut with their innovative styles and the creative edge that makes them stand out of the crowd. One such virtuoso, making waves in and around Europe is Tom Geldschläger, the 29-year old multi-instrumentalist and producer from Berlin, Germany. A prodigious guitar player, Tom a.k.a “Fountainhead”, as he calls his alter-ego, is known to have collaborated in many bands. The variety of genres Fountainhead has tested the waters with is a pleasant surprise as not many can be consistently different. With such a prolific background to boot, Fountainhead has come up with his first EP, ‘Fear Is The Enemy’, touted to be the first of a four-part series.

When it comes to an experimental solo artist, the listener needs to have the acquired taste for different sounds embedded together. And the album initiates itself with a soothing twang of the guitar combined with ambient and rhythmic beats of the table. True to its name, hitherto. All four tracks are laced with ambient sounds combined with chant-like vocals, patiently bridging towards a nice beat and beautiful yet heavy breakdown riffs. The disc is very comfortable to listen to, and guitars, even being quite technical, have an absurdly cool feeling. Tom's ability to create environments and colors with your music is really impressive. This is one of those albums that you can not hear at once. Every single track personifies the progressive elements expected of the genre, especially the title track. ‘Fear Is The Enemy’ starts off with a battle-drum styled background, only to go bang-on to a headbang-worthy riff, with melodic plucking for the interludes. There also comes an extended version of the track, which incorporates a lot more heavier sounds as opposed to the rest of the album.

With 'Fear Is The Enemy', Fountainhead sure came up with a fixed list, unlike its eclectic nature and is certainly bound to impress those who have a Acíduo ear for music perception, turning into a true masterpiece.
Fear is the Enemy is a really extensive work regarding the timbragens and harmonies. The disc is very comfortable to listen to, and guitars, even being quite technical, have an absurdly cool feeling. Surely this is one of the projects that will influence new bands to come because of its creativity and sound quality.
